After she hit the scene in 1999 with her debut chart-topping single "Caught Out There," proving that she is the first girl to scream on a track, she had everyone wondering who the big-haired wild child was with the voice of an angel and the spirit of a rebel. The Harlem-bred songstress is praised for her talent but even more so loved and admired for her fearlessness. Kelis does things that the censors won't pass. Before Rihanna, Cassie, Teyana Taylor, and all those other girls, Kelis was the official trendsetter. So let's pay homage to the Boss Chick that we miss...

For the last four years (since I moved out and lost my classic mixtape CD's) I have been trying to find this song. Two weeks ago, Shaina and I even took a trip over to the Hip Hop Mecca that is Rap Radar and still had no luck. You don't understand, every song that was ever recorded is on file at Rap Radar for goodness sake. I've googled these lyrics forever and this morning at 5:30AM (I'm an insomniac/workaholic) something finally came up. I think this calls for a celebration bitches!

"Yo they keep on telling me
when I spit it's like a lyrical felony
Competition is a distant memory,
state your name dawg friend or enemy
Yeah.. my fans keep hollering
I'm a trendsetter them bitches they keep following
these broads stay pissing me off
Like it wasn't me who put you up on Christian Dior" - Foxy Boogie

Trey Songz has remixed everything from Kanye West tracks (Say Yes You Will), and Lloyd Banks (Til' The End), and now he has taken a crack at Jay-Z's new track, 'Death Of Autotune'; which had everyone in NYC tuned in to Hot 97 on their radios at 9pm this past Friday night. He starts off the song expressing his disdain for being compared to Rob Kelly, saying, "Who wanna hear Kels with autotune though? You? That's some Bull sh*t. They keep comparing me, I'm A new breed". On his rendition of the song he continues to diss the Pied Piper, calling him inadequate, irrelevant, and a "T Pain Copy Cat".

I guess Trey Songz decided that he should take it upon himself to tell R. Kelly to "Wake Up" and stop with his madness while disrespecting him at the same time. It almost sounds like little brother is trying to come at big brother, until he says "Now let the track breath, cut ya braids off, who you trying to be me?". Then continues on to say that He's better than Kels. Thats where (in my own honest opinion) I believe that Trey Songz gets a bit TOO cocky.

Maybe R. Kelly on Autotune wasn't his best move, but lets not forget that he has Legendary tracks, or should I say ALBUMS under his belt. Lets also remember that Trey Songz once paid Homage to, and looked up to R. Kelly.

I Must admit the part where he says "Kelly You The King, But You Tryna Be The Dream ehh ehh eh, ehh eh ehh" tickled me.

You Can Listen To Trey Songz' D.O.A (R. Kelly Diss) by clicking HERE.

As I sit here about to type this review, I can't help but admit how much of a coincidence the lyrics happen to be in my life right now. And if it's one thing women appreciate is a song that feels relatable. So check out Carlos Jashir's (yes he looks familiar because he was on Season 4 of Making The Band) debut single "No Strings". Shout out to Carlos for continuing to do his thing and also for coming through the Boys+Clothes Issue Two party.

Theo + $port at the Boys+Clothes Magazine Issue One Party
Download Theo - Check In (Produced By $port)

Theo, who was featured on the cover of Issue 1 (The Good Guys Edition) recently spit some bars over a $port produced track called Check In. I guess they decided to check in right before our Issue Two release to let us know that they're not slacking not one bit. In case you haven't been following Boys+Clothes since the beginning, BOTH of these guys were in Issue One.

"I will body anybody on a record in a second don't forget it"

...he said it not me!!

OH and P.S.

If you want your music reviewed on the B+C blog, send it in to boysandclothes@gmail.com

We wont feature everything sent in to us, but we'll definitely try to post the ones we here at B+C like.

Haitian V has a crazy ear for what real music heads want to hear. So what does he do in addition to acting, designing, photography and stand-up? He spearheads yet another classic mixtape "V100," Bap Bap, "NO DAYS OFF!"

V100 is an introduction to "who's next". When is the last time you can say you listened to a mixtape with artists not comercially known and actually play the songs back to back? Hell, this is definitely a first for me. Not only does V100 feature artists to watch but, it's a comedic mixtape so you get to bust a gut to Haitian V's wild ass antics even including Jay-Z and Lil Wayne interviews (HA!). Boys, you get to enjoy Nikki Minaj's "darling" voice and please peep the argument with "Ignorant Trevor!

I don't co-sign bullshit or people I'm cool with "just because", so mark my words and say you heard it here first. Every artist is sure to be a big deal in the near future. It's not a game. So you're thinking every body has a mixtape right? Well, many of you effed up on finding out about Drake years ago and now he's responsible for giving birth back to the possibilities. Don't sleep!

Download
it here now and Tell Vlad Pusha Pat sent you! :)

Can't stop listening to Beautiful Problem she wrote with production by Chuck Inglish of the Cool Kids. And Yung keeps singing Up and Out. So when little kids start singing it you know it's a hit, lol.

Random Funny Tidbit: We ran into Vlad at Jade's listening party earlier this week. He's such a sweetheart. Then I get a text message later that night:

"Look what Vlad dumb ass text me, I almost fell out.....

I would marry her then name our next child Younger.."

He's such a comedian.

It's time for me to get off this computer..

My eyes are bloodshot red...the computer chair is hot as hell and I'm literally about to break my neck from all this yawning...

I've been on the computer since 5:00..I can't get up!

and I've played this song about 1,000 times..it's been keeping me going!!!!

I’m so bossy
Bitch, get off me, trick, get off me
You can’t get shit off me
I’m so flossy, no 6s or Sprees
Laid back, Maybachs, don’t even talk to me

No Sleep+Hard Work+Boss Bitch Mode=A possible breakdown and success:)
*Sidenote: Shoutout to the Producer..ill

After all the joy I'd been experiencing these last couple of weeks, I ran into a wall today. It wasn't the best of days but, Brunch at Barney's saved me with a little retail therapy.

Up all night You-Tubing, I came across these videos and boy did hearing these songs bring back some great memories.

EMPIRE!

Being a teenager in Brooklyn was the best. I wish I could go back to a Friday night Empire Rollerskating Ring party in my Coogi Dress and construction timbs, lol. When the skates would get put away and the floor would open up and these songs came on...man! The good ol' days. And yeah don't forget the Tapscott Street Sally Matthews Crips and the Crown Heights Bloods fights/shootouts to top the party off!

Not for nothing, there were some shorties at Empire on Fridays. I wonder where they are now? They're probably all boo'ed up living down south and shit :-/. I doubt if they're locked up because they were way to pretty. Well maybe the gang bangers are :(.

When did Empire close? I think there's a church there now. (?)

Everybody and especially Teneille hysterically laughs at my admiration for Foxy Brown(the rapper)! It's so crazy that if Foxy was to ever be depicted in a movie I'll be the first one at the casting on line with my Yakky wet and wavey wig, my matching fuschia flash lip gloss and nail polish and half of my breast peaking out the side of my Louis halter top! All day every day!!!! HA!

So when we I stumbled on the "Brooklyn We Go Hard," remix with Wayne Wonder I had a moment! Can summer just come so I can hit up a nice flatbush bbq and bugg out to this remix at a party and impersonate Foxy??
