I love this man's spirit. Well, I love what I've seen and heard so far and hope the love affair blossoms along with his Fall 2009 Line. Founder of Aremu Premier Couture, a local urban fashion line with obnoxious plaids dripping with vibrancy, rich color and quality, Bim is well on his way to making his name known, and well worn.
Bim and I connected at the Boys and Clothes Issue 2 Pre-Release Party and his outgoing, heartfelt vibe and enthusiasm for life and fashion drew me in. We chatted for a good hour about his passion for design, and his baby, Aremu Premier Couture. A fitting name, Aremu is Yoruba for "Crawl before you Walk" which is exactly what Aremu is in the process of doing. Plus, he's so damn charming, it's hard not to want to see him shine and succeed, something I suspect Bim Star has no problem stepping into and standing strong in.
Living by the motto "Sleep is not an option" and partying as hard as he works, his ambition has definitely found a home in the Big Apple. When I express concern about his health(!), he assures me that his passion and drive have become his food, and surprisingly, I believe him.
A self-professed work-o-holic, Abimbola Asolabi (Bim Star was a nickname adopted as a young basketball hotshot) grew up in New York as a first generation American to Nigerian parents. His mother is a seamstress / designer and Bim runs the family shop on 125th and 5th in Harlem, Bola International Boutique, which specials in West African fabric and custom design.
Look out for his Fall collection with Aremu Premier Collection, find him at ALLLL the cool kid parties and hit him up at:
