I have alot of hair. But, you'd never see it because it's always braided up in about ten hideous cornrows underneath a full head of someone else's luxurious 16 inch tresses. I LOVE MY WEAVES! And despite how well kept and meticulous it is, coming to terms with the idea of "fake" hair has made every lucky guy I've dealt with become somewhat uncomfortable or judgemental.

So I've decided to clear the air with some Lessons On How To Deal With The Weave Issue:

5. Weave + Rain = Catastrophe
If I’ve just gotten the works done (perm, color and a new weave) we might as well plan a romantic evening indoors. It takes new hair a couple of days to settle and our scalps are still very sensitive and fragile. If you insist on going out though, I will wear a plastic bag on my head (in addition to an umbrella) because, I'm just that anal. I can become the style equivalent of Monk.

4. You Can Pull It!
Smart girls (and girls who don't want to be completely bald or suffer an embarrassing track slippage incident) get sew-ins. But, don’t get crazy, you can still hurt us…it is attached to our heads.

3. We Do It For You
We want to show you how fashionably flexible and mysterious we can be with our new do’s. Once we stop caring what our hair looks like, it could be indicative of a larger problem. Naturally, women want to look good for their men and our hairstyles are our pride. We could have on the most regular looking outfit but, if our hair is fierce so will be our attitude.

2. Outing Us
Whether it be a stash of glue, an emergency clip on ponytail, or leftover tracks we all have a secret hair stash. Trust me, don’t go looking for it. And don't try to catch us with our hair "off". Do you want to get hit? Yelled at? Embarrassed? On our Shit List for all eternity? Pulling off our headscarves while we're in between hairstyles is NOT a good idea! “Outing” us won't force us to shun our weave wearing ways. It will just get you in a heap of trouble.

1. You Can’t Change Us
One day when we’re old and gray we won’t wear them anymore. But, right now we do. Its been drilled into our brains that a woman can't change a man so please let us have our weaves. We hate being compared to “natural” haired girls, we hate your “a short cut would look nice on you” advice, just STOP IT! There are a lot of other quirks in a relationship that could be given the attention.
