The jig is up, there's no such thing as the perfect girl or guy.
But, I'm seeing more and more of us chicks still reaching to achieve this imaginary and imbalanced state. This is a form of extremism.
I sometimes enjoy a great basketball or football game and I love baseball (little known fact, I was a softball pitcher in high school hence the toned arms and I'm an experienced heckler...ask Sweetney), I can go word for word on damn near every Biggie or Jay song (an environmental thing given I'm from BK...the home of Biggie and Jay) and I can bust down a mean steak. But, I'm not about to sit through the entire playoffs, compare rap metaphors or drink Coronas and eat fucking hog maws with any guy to be this imaginary "all around bad chick that look good, dress fly and can hang like one of the boys".
That's FUGAZI!
Do you see my hair and these shoes? I'm not about to be jumping around getting all crazy and sweaty over a damn game. And my shirt is tight so I have to be easy on how much I eat or else my stomach will expand exponentially (ie. booty-do). And I don't wanna talk about songs about drugs and guns! I would've gotten with a hood dude if that's what I was interested in. How about you tell me I'm loving and I'll tell you how secure you make me feel. Let's try making each other feel like a man and a woman. I told y'all I'm a fucking lady. :)
Getting older and considering what relationships are worth ending, keeping or entertaining, it's become imperative to instead weigh just what "he's done for me lately". A lot of times we try to "be something" for someone who wouldn't even budge an elbow on a shared armrest for us. Will he sit through a Sex + The City or Real Housewives of New York marathon with me when I'm on my period? Will he be strong enough to last an evening with my friends who'd be side-eyeing him the whole time because they don't think anyone is good enough for me (lol)? Will he be okay with eating some good ol' tofu Soul Chicken from Red Bamboo on the nights I get crazy about black people and our cholesterol statistics?
There's a time and a place for everything but, even Prince Hakim of Zamunda didn't want to settle for a beautiful girl who was everything she THOUGHT he wanted her to be. Being a walking billboard for "perfection" will get you a lot of potential "customers" (ie. admirers) but, its never about quantity, its about quality.
